Montes Folly Syrah 2020

Montes Folly is a wild wine of exceptional quality, a Syrah from vineyards located on the highest slopes of La Finca de Apalta in the Colchagua Valley. The exceptional grapes grown here make Montes Folly a wine rich in color and tannins, complex and bold. The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously selected. Montes Folly has been awarded as the best Syrah in Chile.

VINEYARDS

The grapes for Montes Folly grow on the steepest hillsides of our Finca de Apalta estate, where the Syrah has adapted best and found equilibrium between fruit yield and vegetative growth. The soils are of granite origin and consist primarily of eroded rock from the mountain chain above; they are rather thin and poor in organic matter, with good drainage that encourages the roots to explore the entire profile, in search of water. We also find a high proportion of angular stones and a low clay content. This all results in plants producing low yields of grapes with tremendous concentration and character.

TASTING NOTES

The wine presents an intense carmine-red colour with violet tones on the edge. The aromas are reminiscent of ripe red and blue fruit, including blueberry, blackberry, and cherry, as well as black plum. There are cookie notes accompanied by sweet spices such as nutmeg and vanilla, acquired during the 18 months of aging in French barrels. There are also hints of leather, dark chocolate, and toast. The palate is very balanced with smooth tannins that contribute to a long finish, which leaves behind dairy flavours that add to the overall sensation.
