Glenmorangie 18 years

Glenmorangie Extremely Rare 18 Years Old is a premium Highland single malt Scotch whisky produced at the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, Scotland. It is recognised for its elegant character, rich fruit flavours, delicate floral aromas and smooth, rounded finish. Part of Glenmorangie's Prestige Range, this expression combines long maturation in American oak ex-bourbon casks with additional maturation in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a sophisticated whisky that balances honeyed sweetness, dried fruit, creamy vanilla and gentle oak spices. The older Extremely Rare edition is particularly recognisable by its traditional bottle design and, in certain releases, its gold-coloured presentation box. The expression has since been replaced by the rebranded The Infinita 18 Years Old.

Maturation

Process One of the defining features of Glenmorangie 18 Extremely Rare is its carefully balanced maturation process. First 15 years — American oak ex-bourbon casks The whisky initially matures in American white oak casks previously used for bourbon. This develops its creamy vanilla character, honeyed sweetness, gentle oak influence and fruity aromas. Final three years — Oloroso sherry casks Approximately 30% of the whisky is transferred to Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for a further three years. The remaining portion continues maturing in American oak casks. The sherry-matured component contributes additional richness, dried-fruit character, nuttiness and complexity. Final blending After the maturation period, the two components are brought together to create the finished 18-year-old whisky. This combination preserves Glenmorangie's characteristic floral elegance while introducing the richer flavours associated with sherry casks.
